3-Star Hotel Deploys IP Phones + Guest WiFi — 120 Rooms

How a 120-room hotel upgraded from analog phones to WiFi-enabled IP phones with one-touch guest services, UniFi access points, and Akuvox door stations — during a scheduled renovation.

Property Profile

A 3-star hotel with 120 rooms undergoing a scheduled renovation in Thailand. The property includes a lobby, restaurant, pool area, and back-of-house offices. Management wanted to modernize in-room technology without exceeding the renovation budget.

Business Challenge

The existing analog phone system was outdated and offered no integration with property management. Recabling the entire building for new wired phones would have been cost-prohibitive within the renovation timeline.

Guest services wanted one-touch speed-dial buttons for reception, housekeeping, and room service. The front desk needed room-status visibility without relying on manual updates from housekeeping staff.

SIPPER Solution

SIPPER designed a converged voice and WiFi solution. Fanvil H3W WiFi phones were deployed in standard rooms — eliminating the need for new Ethernet runs to each room. Fanvil H5W phones with larger displays and programmable keys were installed at the front desk.

A Yeastar P560 PBX handled call routing with FIAS-ready design for future PMS integration. UniFi access points were refreshed across all floors to support both guest WiFi and the WiFi phones. Akuvox door stations were installed at staff entrances and parking areas.

Deployment Process

Installation was coordinated floor-by-floor alongside the renovation schedule. WiFi phones significantly reduced cabling work — each room only needed power for the phone and an existing WiFi connection. The UniFi AP refresh was completed first to ensure reliable wireless coverage before phone deployment.

Phone provisioning was handled centrally through the Yeastar auto-provisioning system, allowing all 120 room phones to be configured and tested in batches.

Results & Metrics

Total cost came in at approximately 7,500–10,500 baht per room, well within the renovation budget. The WiFi phone approach reduced cabling time and cost compared to a traditional wired deployment.

The front desk gained room-status integration capability through the FIAS-ready design. Guest WiFi satisfaction improved with the UniFi AP refresh, and one-touch speed-dial buttons on room phones reduced call-routing errors for guest services.
